Congratulations to the recipients of our summer 2021 Everyday Heroes awards: Lazar Gevezov, Mel-Vaugh Rudolph, and Colleen Sciulli.

These awards are given four times a year to employees who go “above and beyond” to serve our residents and children and who embody the Core Values of Vincentian’s mission. Each award recipient receives $250. All nominees are entered to win a special prize drawing at the end of the year.

Lazar Gevezov, Housekeeping, Vincentian Home

“Compassion. Quality. Collaboration. Lazar demonstrates these core values daily through his work and actions,” said Dan Devine, Maintenance Manager, in his nomination. Lazar is responsible for the housekeeping duties of up to 30 residents on one of the floors in Vincentian Home. He is often asked to take on more work to ensure resident areas are cleaned, especially during a pandemic. According to Dan, Lazar approaches all of the work he’s asked to do with a simple, “Not a problem.”

“He shows a drive bigger than just doing at task. He shows compassion. His and all of our housekeeping staff’s values and ethics are demonstrated daily through work and interpersonal connections with other staff and residents,” said Dan.

Mel-Vaugh Rudolph, Activity Aide, Vincentian Schenley Gardens

Mel-Vaugh has been a wonderful addition to our activities team, said Rosemarie Malanoski, Activities Manager, in her nomination. As an Activity Aide at Vincentian Schenley Gardens, Mel-Vaugh plans and manages recreation activities for the residents and often interacts with family members and other visitors.

He has a quiet, calm demeanor and pleasant tone of voice that comfort our residents, particularly those in Memory Care. He sets an example for his coworkers in the respectful way he treats all individuals, the concern and attentiveness he shows to all residents, and the overall pride he demonstrates in his work, said Rosemarie.

Colleen Sciulli, Housekeeper, Vincentian de Marillac

“Always kind, friendly and willing to help.” That’s how most people describe Colleen. “In addition to her housekeeping duties, Colleen regularly helps screen staff and visitors – even offering to relieve others who typically screen,” explained Megan Zelany, Social Services Manager, in her nomination. She knows the residents at Vincentian de Marillac well and takes an interest in their lives. She often serves as an advocate alerting the appropriate staff member of their needs.
