What It Means to Be Vincentian: Quality

Vincentian’s mission and core values are the foundation of everything we do.  They are the beliefs, philosophies, and principles that guide our decision making, and give us a purpose for coming to work every day. Let us take a closer look at our value ofquality.

Quality is the degree of excellence in our provision of service to those we serve. It demands of us that we deliver competent services in a caring environment. Quality applies to the atmosphere of the workplace as well as to the expertise of the persons rendering the service.

Putting the value of Quality into practice, we:

• Show pride in your work and appearance by always trying to do and look your best.
• Greet everyone in a warm, friendly way – smile!
• Follow through and be accountable for assignments and requests.
• Express joy and use humor at work.
• Follow current policies and procedures. Document as needed.

In sacred scripture we see God’s calling is for us to serve others:

“As generous distributors of God’s grace, put your gifts at the service of one another, each in the measure one has received. The one who speaks is to deliver God’s message. The one who serves is to do it with the strength provided by God.” (1 Peter 4: 10-11)

In church documents we read that we must continue the ministry of Jesus:

“Providing health care is both a service and a ministry. The mission of Catholic health care is to continue the healing ministry of Jesus by providing quality, faith-based care in the communities served.” (National Conference of Catholic Bishops/U.S. Catholic Conference, August 25, 1999)

Our Patrons remind us of the necessity for quality service:

St. Vincent de Paul: “I thank God for your exactness in trying to do all things well.”

St. Louise de Marillac: “I am expecting great things from you, and that you will do all you can in the best possible way according to the norms of justice.”
