We are pleased to announce that Laurie Cannella, RN, BSN, NHA, has been named Vincentian’s Chief Nursing Officer leading nursing operations across all Vincentian campuses.

In this newly established role, Laurie will be responsible for leading innovative clinical strategies that support Vincentian’s organizational goals to provide differentiated quality care and optimize patient care experiences. Laurie has been instrumental in modernizing efficiencies with the use of telemedicine, the enhanced adoption of electronic medical record software and the implementation of data-driven quality improvement initiatives.

She will cast a vision to standardize excellence of care at Vincentian skilled nursing facilities through collaborative efforts with acute care hospital partners, accountable care organizations, physicians, nurses, therapists, pharmacists and professional organizations.

Laurie joined Vincentian in 1997 and has held several progressive leadership roles, including Vincentian Home’s Administrator, Assistant Administrator, Director of Resident Services, Director of Nursing, Staff Educator, Nursing Supervisor, and Staff Registered Nurse. After becoming Vice President of Clinical Excellence in 2019, she has helped to position Vincentian as a recognized leader for patient care and clinical innovation.

Among her many career accomplishments, Laurie led Vincentian’s pandemic response across all campuses, including the establishment of a COVID-19 unit to treat recovering COVID-19 patients, helping to control transmission of the virus and alleviate strain on the community and area hospitals. In January, Vincentian established a partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of Health and Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency to open a Hospital Decompression site for post-acute patients at Vincentian Home.

Laurie earned her bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Slippery Rock University and her professional RN diploma from Shadyside Hospital School of Nursing. She also completed Nursing Home Administration coursework with the Community College of Allegheny County.
