Have you been intrigued by the idea of a personality profile? With DiSC, you can DiSCover more about you and the people around you. Vincentian has adopted the DiSC Assessment tool to help our leaders improve communication, develop teamwork, and promote a culture of collaboration. Knowing our own DiSC style enables us to predict our own behaviors and tendencies as well as to identify and adapt to the styles of others. The information gained from DiSC contributes to positive culture, better communication and teamwork, increased productivity, and employee engagement.
Here are some quick facts about DiSC:
- DiSC is based on the work of William Moulton Marsten, PhD (1893-1947).
- In addition to DiSC, Dr. Marsten also contributed to the development of the polygraph test and is the creator of the Wonder Woman comic book character.
- DiSC is an acronym representing 4 basic styles:
- D – Dominance: To the point, decisive, and bottom-line oriented. These people tend to be independent and results-driven. They are strong-willed people who enjoy challenges, taking action, and achieving immediate results.
- i – Influence: Optimistic and outgoing. These people tend to be highly social and outgoing. They prefer participating in teams, sharing thoughts, and entertaining and energizing others.
- S – Steadiness: Empathetic & Cooperative. These people tend to be team players and are supportive and helpful to others. They prefer being behind the scene while working in consistent and predictable ways. They are often good listeners and avoid change and conflict.
- C – Conscientiousness: Concerned, Cautious & Correct. These people are often focused on details and quality. They plan ahead, constantly check for accuracy, and want to know “how” and “why”.
- DiSC assesses predictable behavior:
- Personalities are complex and unique. Behaviors, however, can be predictable. DiSC helps us to identify the predictable tendencies of each type.
- DiSC does not define ability or suitability for a specific role:
- Our DiSC type identifies our tendency and our comfort zone, not our ability. DiSCrimination is never acceptable, and our type does not define who we are or what we can do. Background, experience, education, and other factors determine ability.
- DiSC can help us communicate with everyone:
- The value of using DiSC at work is easy to understand. DiSC is also valuable at home, with friends and in any setting where positive communication is key.
